Workplace follow-up vital to improve safety

This was one of the key messages from Maybo Chairman, Bill Fox, speaking at the Skills for Security CPD workshop for trainers last Friday (22nd June).Whilst acknowledging progress that has been made in conflict management and physical intervention training, Bill reminded us that work place follow up is vital to achieve desired improvements in staff and public safety.

The hot topic was violence reduction and physical intervention and how trainers can go further in helping staff and employers to reduce risks. Bill explored the role of the training consultant, helping interpret contract requirements and ensure training is fit for purpose i.e. at an adequate level and relevant to the job role.

Bill also examined the challenges surrounding transfer of learning to the workplace and maintaining knowledge and skills. Bill emphasised the importance of targeting a reduction in use of force, and not just teaching safer methods.
