Welsh Schools Working Hard to Reduce Pupil Assaults on Teachers

After a Freedom of Information request revealed that schools in Wrexham had excluded over 700 pupils in the past three years for verbal abuse and physical assaults on teaching staff, councillors stress that schools are taking steps to reduce poor behaviour.

The numbers of boys excluded continually outstrips the numbers of girls and exclusions for violent and challenging behaviour in Wrexham were much higher than Gwynedd.

Chairman of the National Union of Teachers in Wales, Neil Foden has called on all local authorities and schools to take the care of their teaching staff seriously adding he believed assaults on teachers was remaining about a constant level.
