Volunteer marshals fear repeat of verbal abuse from motorists

This is Cornwall is asking local motorists to be patient following claims charity runners and marshals taking part in road races in Newquay encounter verbal abuse from drivers.

Paul Wright, of the Newquay Road Runners' (NRR) club, said, "Some marshals had asked not to be placed at certain 'rage spots' in the town at Newquay's 10k run, taking place later this month, as they feared a repeat of the "nasty" verbal abuse they endured last year."

"The problem has been getting progressively worse over recent years." He said.
