Verbal Abuse of Paramedic Receives Community Order

A six week community order plus a fine of £728.77 has been dished out to a patient who verbally abused an East of England Ambulance Service paramedic and damaged an ambulance.

The Supervisor of the Stevenage station welcomed the decision and has called for CCTV to be used to help protect paramedics. In addition, trade union UNISON is currently negotiating a lone worker policy to help improve safety, allowing paramedics to go out in a pair if they feel vulnerable going out alone.
