Slight Reduction in Physical Assaults Against NHS Staff - Latest NHS Figures Show

The latest annual figures for reported physical assaults against NHS staff in England show a slight reduction of 819 from the 2013/14 figure.

Compiled by NHS Protect from responses from all NHS Trusts in England, the results also reveal that there has been an increase in the number of criminal sanctions following reported assaults.

The number of reported physical assaults for 2014/15 is 67,864.

Ensuring staff are trained to meet NHS Protect’s conflict resolution training standards to calmly defuse and de-escalate situations and using NHS Protect’s ‘Meeting needs and reducing distress – Guidance on the prevention and management of clinically related challenging behaviour in NHS settings’, are two of six key measures NHS Protect is encouraging Trusts to implement.
