One NHS Lanarkshire Hospital Bears Brunt of Violent Assaults

The total number of attacks on staff at the three hospitals in NHS Lanarkshire is showing a downward trend, but the number of incidents at the Wishaw General is more than three times the combined total of the other two.

The Daily Record reports that in the past two years there have been 82 reported cases of verbal abuse, assault and violent behaviour across the Trust, 52 of which have taken place at Wishaw.

Mandatory training is in place for all staff to prevent and manage violence and aggression and NHS Lanarkshire operates a zero tolerance policy for anyone demonstrating inappropriate aggressive behaviour towards members of hospital staff.

Nurses were on the receiving end of 37 of the attacks, with 40 not identifying the job role of the victim.
