Jail for Man Who Verbally Abused Rail Staff and Public

A two week jail sentence has been dished out to a man who verbally abused members of the public at Swansea railway station and left a member of staff fearing for his safety.

Following a British Transport Police investigation which used a media appeal and CCTV to identify 38 year old Christopher John, he was sentenced at Swansea Magistrates Court for a public order offence of disorderly behaviour and for failing to appear for a previous court hearing in relation to the incident.

Superintendent Andy Morgan, of British Transport Police, told Wales Online, “This was a totally unprovoked attack on a member of staff who was simply trying to carry out their job and members of the public who were innocent bystanders.

“BTP will not tolerate aggression of any kind towards railway staff or fellow passengers. Staff should not have to endure abuse or violence for carrying out their job, and we will arrest and prosecute anyone who engages in this type of behaviour."
