Housing Staff Suffer Increase in Verbal and Physical Assaults

Welfare reforms and increasing financial pressures on residents are being blamed for a rise of almost 25 per cent in verbal and physical assaults on housing staff.

According to figures gathered by Inside Housing the number of assaults rose from 2,503 in 2012 to 3,047 in 2013, among the 173 organisations that provided two consecutive years of comparable data.

Over 40 per cent of housing professionals responded to an anonymous survey that they felt less safe doing thier job today than they did one year ago.
