Dementia Training for NHS Staff

Health Education England (HEE) has set out the availability of dementia training for all NHS by 2018 as a priority in its latest mandate.

Spotting the early symptoms of dementia, understanding how to interact with people with dementia and where they can access the most appropriate care and support will be covered by the training which will be extended to 250,000 NHS staff by March 2015 and made available to all NHS staff by the end of 2018.

Dementia is a significant factor in the number and severity of assaults against NHS staff and can be best managed by a considered approach to conflict resolution that develops awareness and safer working practices whilst contributing to positive relationships, rather than confrontation.
