Care Home Warned for Unlawful Restraint

A Buckinghamshire Care Home has received a formal warning for unlawful restraint, following and inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

The home accommodates four people with physical and learning disabilities and the inspection findings reveal that lap belts were used to restrain a resident in a wheel chair, without adequate care planning to ensure the actions were in the best interests of the individual.

Inconsistent use of lap belts, putting residents at risk was also identified in the inspection report.

Radian Housing Association who owns the home have taken steps to rectify the situation. The service has been re-inspected and shown to be fully compliant with CQC requirements in a draft report.
