Body Cameras for Traffic Wardens to Deter Abuse and Attacks

In a bid to reduce incidents of verbal abuse and physical assault on traffic wardens, some Councils are introducing body cameras.

The devices, set to record constantly when wardens are on duty, are not used to enforce parking fines but to record violent or aggressive behaviour. As well as acting as a deterrent, the cameras will provide a mechanism for providing evidence to support prosecutions.

Lanarkshire Council have taken the step to provide cameras following ten incidents of abuse against traffic wardens in the past year.

Can body cameras change behaviour?
