Parking Attendants Suffer Hundreds of Attacks Each Year

The Yorkshire Post has carried out an investigation which reveals Hundreds of council parking attendants are being attacked or verbally abused by angry motorists across the region every year.

Officers have reported incidents of being pelted with eggs and snowballs, punched in the face and having cars driven directly at them.

The Yorkshire Post obtained the figures using the Freedom of Information Act after asking the 21 councils responsible for parking enforcement in the region for the number of staff assaulted while on duty since 2010.

Many of the incidents are not reported to the police, even if a physical attack has taken place, as councils have to be sure who the perpetrator is first and have enough evidence of what has happened, the use of shoulder mounted cameras is helping to achieve this and make officers feel more confident.
