Security Stepped up in the Light of Abuse Against Clinical Staff

Police Community Support Officers have joined forces with hospital security staff to protect doctors, nurses and patients from abuse.

In the past year hundreds of incidents of assaults, threats and verbal abuse against staff occurred at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

A pilot project, in which PCSOs are based at the hospital and patrolling with security officers, is making a difference, say police.

The 12-month scheme, which began in July, aims to lower incidents of violence and aggression against NHS staff and enhance patient safety.
