Care providers are striving to provide the best care for service users who have varied and often complex needs. At the same time organisations are struggling with limited resources, a significant percentage of low skilled staff and increasing regulation.

Training is a vital ingredient needed to improve the quality of care and to reduce risks to services users, staff and the organisation itself, but not just any training will do, it must be relevant, flexible, cost effective and based on caring values that promote respect for the individual and a reduction of conflict through developing positive interactions and relationships.

Maybo was founded in 1996 by individuals passionate about reducing conflict and creating safer environments for individuals to live and work in. Our first client was an independent provider of residential care for adults with learning disabilities. This organisation is a valued client to this day and we have grown and learnt together. We have achieved BILD accreditation for our work within adult and children’s services and now partner some of the largest care providers across a full range of therapeutic services in the UK and Australia. We support businesses, government and voluntary organisations that want to do things even better.

Maybo helps care providers to meet duty of care and regulatory requirements in a way that promotes positive values and change in behaviours. Our models and learning methods integrate primary and secondary strategies for preventing and defusing conflict and positive behaviour support through simple and engaging methods that work for staff of mixed ability.

In some more challenging contexts we provide a unique low arousal physical intervention skills set that is consistent with positive care values. Whilst highly effective when called upon, it also builds confidence and reduces risk for all involved. Restraint always carries risk and our focus is not just on teaching safer methods, but on targeting a reduction in restrictive practices.

Maybo has the most flexible range of learning solutions available which allows us to respond to the unique needs and constraints faced by each care provider with whom we work. We help them to develop blended and integrated strategies delivering consistent core threads, with the flexibility to adapt to the unique needs of each service and service user through our coaching and problem solving model and work based learning resources.

Physical intervention (assault avoidance, containment, disengagement, escorting and holding): Many care staff require assault avoidance skills and those working in A&E and mental health units will require holding skills. Maybo offer two slightly different courses for
physical skills in healthcare and physical skills in care
